Winter Skeet

The winter skeet league is a five-shooter team event that begins every year on January 1 and ends in early April.  During the winter skeet league, the league also runs a two-shooter, single-elimination skeet tournament.

The league shoots 25 regular targets and 25 doubles targets for a 50 target score which is then handicapped accordingly. Shooters must complete 250 targets (five rounds) to be eligible for awards that are given out at the Winter Skeet League Banquet in early April.

A note
from the Chairmen

We are excited to open Northbrook Sports Club’s 2024 Winter Skeet League! While the 2023 Winter Skeet League was a huge success, we’re looking forward to an even more exciting 2024 League.

As usual, the first day of competition will be New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1, 2024.  We're hopeful that many if not all teams that competed in 2023 will return in 2024.  You received an email if you competed in 2023, and we have your squad information.  We will email you again in the next few weeks regarding registration of your 2024 squad so start contacting your 2023 squad mates in preparation for 2024.

To refresh your memory, the following is a high-level summary of the 2024 league:

  • Squads will pull and score their own rounds and then post their round scorecards to the scoreboard as in prior years.

  • There will be both a five-shooter competition and two-shooter competition.  2024 league fees will be the same as last year:  $40/shooter for five-shooter squads, and $10/shooter for two-shooter squads.

  • The league begins on Monday, January 1, 2024 and will end on Saturday, April 6, 2024 followed by the Winter Skeet banquet that evening.

  •  We will communicate with shooters through the winter skeet email address, so it’s imperative that we have at least two email addresses from each squad.  You can register your squad through this email and will therefore receive weekly score updates as well as other league information throughout the season.

  • Please either email or see Nate Lubbers if you have questions regarding rules and competition.

  • Most of you know that guns are not permitted anywhere inside the club (except the gun cleaning room), which includes our Winter Skeet hangout, the annex.  Gun are racked outside in the pavilion and may only be assembled/broken down outside or at your car—or brought cased to the gun cleaning room.  Cased guns are permitted in the annex but again, have to brought outside to be assembled, etc.

We will again:

  • Host a New-Winter-Skeet-shooter orientation breakfast at the club on Sunday, November 12th at 9:30a.  We’ll explain the Winter Skeet league and then organize squads to shoot a round of Winter Skeet with the new participants.  We’ll provide more information on the breakfast in the coming weeks.

  • We are researching new branded Winter Skeet League apparel or an accessory for all 2024 league participants…stay tuned!

One last item, two of your three winter skeet chairmen (Budd Eichner and Nate Lubbers) will be retiring from the chairmanship after this season.  We’ve enjoyed running the competition with Henry Schwenk for the last seven years but feel some new blood is required in order to keep the league vital and fresh.  We therefore invite those interested in taking a leadership position to contact us to further explore.

We're looking forward to another robust competition.  Stay safe, and we look forward to seeing you at Northbrook!
